I love garage sales, and I love thrift stores, why? cheap electronics 😛 Friday after work, I left on a thriftshop run with my mother. I always check electronics first. I often see 17-19 inch 4:3 monitors but they are often priced at $50 which imo is way overpriced. Today i happened to see a widescreen monitor which appeared to be ~21-23 inches. Samsung 2232GW. I plug it in and I dont see anything on the display. I wait a few seconds and see that there is a flashing “digital/analog” box. One of the employees comes over and says “I thought It was working…. let me take it back”… I quickly replied that I would buy it and test it at home. When I got home, I did a little bit of research and figure out these monitors had defective capacitors and that they would be easy to replace. I quickly serached a youtube video and figured out how to open it up. Somebody from Ebay sold me a “repair kit” with the exact 7 capacitors known to go bad, and in a few days they arrived.

How To: Remove horizontal line from Libre Office
I kept getting this stupid line that kept moving up when I tried to delete it. Most likely from me copying and pasting text from Microsoft Word to Libre Office.
Here are the steps to delete it
1) Open the document
2) Select all text with Ctrl+A (Note: his can also be done on individual paragraphs without selecting all text)
3) Click on Format–> Paragraph
4) Click on the Border Tab and uncheck all borders AND the checkbox “Merge with next paragraph”
5) Now you can go manually and remove or add the horizontal rules by placing your cursor on the line you want the horizontal rule to be and going to Format –> Paragraph, and then checking the bottom border.
How to: Setting Up Multiple Remote Frontend for a MythTV Backend

How To: Update the BIOS on an MSI motherboard
First of all, MSI documentations SUCKS, M-Flash SUCKS. Few hours of research and possibly luck I was able to update the BIOS on my new system. M-Flash would freeze my computer in the BIOS screen when I selected the new BIOS version. This caused a few missing heartbeats but it did not break my motherboard, it just never flashed. I formatted the flashdrive to fat32 as many websites say but nothing worked. I placed the files on the root of the flash drive and could see them but selecing them would freeze the bios.
How To: Diagnose and fix a Samsung Galaxy S2’s faulty power button
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a great phone, with one fatal flaw – The Power Button. This button that probably cost 5 cents will render your whole $200 dollar phone useless once it fails. I have replaced 3 phones power buttons and getting ready to replace another one so I thought i’d share my experiences and knowledge.
Note: I do not do repairs for people, take a look on Ebay, there are lots of sellers that offer this service. Also follow this guide/article at your own risk.
Diagnosis:
Here are some key things to narrow down the issue to the power button:
Phone reboots on its own, it may not even fully boot before it reboots
Pressing the power button lightly often brings up the long press menu.
Battery drains quickly
Bulged battery –> spin the battery on its side to see if it has a bulge.
Repair:
There are things you can do before replacing the power button, this video below mentions some of them. Although I would advise against hitting your phone, try the pliers method.
How To: Remove Flipora/infoaxe.net SPAM Extension
My mother signed up for Flipora thinking one of her friends sent her an invite, and it turned out its a scam/phising attempt. Soon after everybody in her contacts started receiving SPAM and invitations to the service. I found the blogpost below which has helped so far, I added some notes since I’m using chrome and the post was for firefox.
