Most useful shortcuts and Tweaks for macOS/Windows/Linux

This is a list of my most used shortcuts and tweaks for the different operating systems, they can save you a lot of time and make your workflow much faster through the day.

SHORTCUTS

Show/Hide Program Windows

  • macOS ==> F3 (Expose Key)
  • Linux Gnome ==> command Key
  • Windows 10 ==> command + Tab

Lock Screen

  • macOS ==> option + cmd + power == > lock Screen
  • Linux ==> command + L
  • Windows 7/10 ==> command + L

Show Desktop

  • macOS ==> cmd + F3 (Expose)
  • Linux Gnome ==> command + D
  • Windows 10 ==> command + D

Copy or Move Dragged Icon

  • macOS==> Click and drag an icon, hold option/alt before releasing
  • Linux ==> Click and drag an icon, hold ctrl before releasing

Shortcuts macOS

  • Smaller increments Volume/Backlight ==> shift + option + volume/backlight up/down
  • Detailed description ==> option + left click menu bar icons (works for Wifi, Sound)
  • Screenshots
    • Whole screen screenshot ==> shift + cmd + 3
    • Screenshot of rectangular section ==>  shift + cmd + 4
    • Screenshot of window selected ==> shift + cmd + 4 then spacebar
  • Force Quit Application
    • Right Click Icon on Dock + Press Option ==> Force Quit
  • Preview Documents
    • Single click to highlight document ==> Press Spacebar
  • Quickly Rename Documents
    • Single click to highlight document ==> Press Enter

  • Appearance and usability
    • Move dock to left side
    • Add shortcuts to folders
    • Change desktop wallpaper
    • Enable contrast in accessibility
    • Change Terminal theme to homebrew
  • Functionality
    • Enable right click and two finger click
    • Resolution to scaled 1440×900
    • Disable scroll direction natural
    • Trackpad, enable app expose with 3 fingers
    • Add icons to top of menu bar (VPN,WIFI,)
    • Change date/time to show day and month.
